Ever since I started junior high school, I had been bullied by a deliquent classmate.
The bullying ranged from having words such as "DIE" scribbled on my personal belongings to getting beaten.
I think I was probably depressed. My mother was worried about me, but being a kid, I took my frustration out on her.
I would sometimes even hit her in a fit of temper.
One morning, after a night of particularly bad angry outburst, my mother --- whose face was painfully swollen --- handed me a bento (lunch-box)** , saying "today I put your favourite meal in it --- a Hamburg steak."
She was smiling and I nearly teared up as I went to school.
But just my luck, the bully turned up at the lunchtime, saying he had forgotten to bring a lunch with him.
I tried my best to fend him off but he hit me and wrenched the bento from my hands.
"Your bento tastes great. LOL," he said, and ate it all, and afterwards threw the empty bento back to me.
I was devastated and went home crying...
When I arrived home, my mother was already crying and, although she was surprised that I came home early, gave me a tight hug.
The bullying stopped from the next day.

**Bento --- Japanese portable meals. Some people make really elaborate bentos like those "chara-ben" below, which often are arranged to resemble characters from anime and manga.

eyy why people are so dark. meanwhile i have a little bright deduction(?); yep the mom poisoned the bento, but i do think she was crying because she regretted a lot after that, therefore she hugged her child after she knew the kid was still alive.
the bully's fate should not have known at the little span of that time, so yeah, the mom should not know what happened with the bully before the kid went home.

A boy who lived with his mom killed his sibling. Panicked, he threw the body down the well in the backyard. The next day he checked, and the body wasn't there! Getting more confident in his twistedness, the little boy continued to bring friends and strays over to kill them, and toss them down the well.
As this boy grew into a man, he stayed with his mother, enacting his awful deeds. Eventually his mother grew old and, not wanting to take care of her, he killed her too, and tossed her in the well. The mother's body never vanished.
For this story you posted, I wonder if the mother knew her child would maybe get his lunch stolen and poisoned it, assuming it would end her suffering no matter if the child or the bully ate it.

Hello! I am sorry for being late in displaying the answer!
As everyone rightly guessed, the answer is that the mother put some poison in the bento and the bully possibly died from it! The mother, we think, wanted to originally kill her own son!
In the story, it says the mother was "already" crying when he arrived home, which also suggests she is guilty!
