The Mantra Cave of Ishiteji Temple

There’s a so-called haunted spot in my neighbourhood—a cave about five metres deep with a stone monument inside.

One day, in the middle of the night, I got an email from my friend A saying he was going to explore that cave.

“I’m about to go into the cave.”
“It’s pitch dark inside.”
“I’ll send you a photo of the stone monument.”

He kept sending messages and pictures like that, but after one last message—“I can hear voices”—the emails suddenly stopped.

I was worried, but the next day he showed up at school as if nothing had happened. So I asked him what happened after that.

He looked at me quizzically and said, “What are you talking about?”

When I told him he’d been emailing me from the cave the night before, he denied it. He said he never went to the cave and never sent any emails.

He kept insisting, so I showed him the messages he’d sent me. But he still said he hadn’t sent them—and that the email address wasn’t even his.

So I checked the address again and realised that all the emails had been sent by myself.
