Uba-Yo-Sare

*If you are afraid of going to toilet alone in the middle of the night you'd better not read this kind of story. I have warned you!

A man woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. He got up and groped his way to the door in the dark. He was about to open it when someone knocked it three times from the other side. This was strange, since he lived alone in the house. He thought he must have a friend staying over without remembering it, as such things often happened after a night of drunken revelry. He therefore opened it without much concern.

But instead of a familiar face of his friend, he saw a strange old woman dressed in kimono, with a bent back and downcast eyes, standing still in the doorway. Her face was unusually pale.

And the old woman, without words, took him away to some faraway place, and the man was never seen again.

If you have read this story, you may have a visit from the same old woman within three days. If you hear the knocks three times in the middle of the night before you open a door, do not open it immediately, but chant the word "Uba-Yo-Sare" three times. This will make the malicious old woman go away. If you don't follow the instruction, well..... you know what happens.

In .hack//GU, a game that takes place in a MMORPG, had a rumor board, and there were a few like these... Like, "You'll see some black dots, and you'll hear a girl asking, 'Will you play with me?' If you say yes, she'll pull you to the other side. If you say no, she'll curse you and you'll fall into a coma. You have to say, 'You're mom's here to pick you up?' When she says, 'Where is she?' say, 'Behind you'. The girl will scream and will disappear."

This is like that, I guess.

There is lots of stories like this where if you read it you'll be cursed and you'll have to do certain actions to save yourself.

Hi Saya,

I've read this story many times. What are the chances of the old woman visiting? Also, what happens if I never opened the door until daytime?
Anonymous said…
Does it explain what to do if the door is already open? Because my bathroom door is never closed unless I'm using it to drop a duce and need the light on. Does this make me immune to the whole thing, or will I just randomly find my door "closed" on one random night? Oh and one more thing, if I hear knocking on any door that I know is empty from the other side, I'm running like hell. And sence the door has to "open" for the lady to take me away, welllllll I guess I'm safe :D

I got one question about this story. If he never was seen again, then how was this story conjured up. The details of the woman had to be eye witnessed by the victim, but the victim was never seen again. Contradiction.

usually things like that only happen in folk lore.

but I have to admit any one who is spiritually aware and reading these should probably think it through logically before suspecting a curse. for instance how old is ur house. do you get feelings from certain rooms, you can look up the records of the history of the area before intergoing the chance of a haunting but none the less gr8 scare for the overly sensitive.

I wonder if it matters how loudly you chant. Saya, do you have an opinion?

AHHH I TOTALLY READ THIS LAST NIGHT AND THEN THIS MORNING AFTER MY MOM LEFT SOMEONE KNOCKED THREE TIMES.

I was so scared I whispered the words and stayed in my room a whole extra hour.

It's been like three hours but I'm still scared to go do my chores.

Why would a japanese ghost woman be at a house in america?

I have two BIG windows besides the front door (would never open the backdoor at midnight) and I always look from them before opening the door. So what would happen?

Why would a japanese ghost woman be at a house in Mexico?

P.S. I've always wanted to know if there is more to this existence. I guess is time to know.

what if you sleep in the bathroom for a week....will she be able to get you? or will she knock on the other side of the door? also...like the others said....who is the one telling the story? is it her herself? is she warning everyone? what if i leave food(offerings) in there for her...will she still get me? i'm sorry for asking so many questions.....but you know what they say "the only stupid questions are the ones that go unasked."

One must pity a spirit doomed to haunt bathrooms.

What happens if you don't open the door at all? Or if you live in a big house with two toilets? Surely she can't be in both of them.

Hi

I read this and i want to know is this suppose to be a curse or urban legend???

Real ghost, real curse, real story, and real dangerous, if you go to Bermuda triangle and area 51. These two places that will take you toward the another dimension. Your imagination is good, you should have been better suited to make a novel about ghosts. Like a horror novel "Goosebumps".
