(Translated and arranged by Saya)

4th December
24 hours have passed since I have been stranded in this mountain.
It is impossible to warm myself up in such an old cabin. I feel a little cold but it is still much better than being outside.
I know that the rescue is on its way.

-----------
6th December
No sign of rescue yet.
This snowstorm is probably causing the delay.
I will continue to wait patiently.

-----------
My watch is broken and I cannot tell the date anymore.
I am running short of food.
Water can be obtained from snow but hunger will be hard to bear.
Snowstorm     not stopping

-----------
A cold draught is coming from the door. I am glad I brought extra warm clothes with me.
My hand shakes because of the cold and I cannot write so well, but I will not give up.
If I give up it will mean the end of me.

-----------
It is truly unbelievable!
The vicious snowstorm stopped and it cleared up as if by a miracle.
I was found by a rescue team. They told me it is 12th December.
This has been one long nightmarish experience, but it is over now. I will leave this diary behind for those who may need it.

If someone gets stranded again in this cabin, and has a chance to read this diary, this is I want to say to that person:
Do not lose hope! The rescue will come!
12th December *****

--------------------------------------------

The pen pressure got weaker and weaker with each entry, but the last message was written with such clarity and strength as to show that the writer's heart was filled with hope.

It should be noted that, however, that the snowstorm lasted for days until 14th December, and the rescue team restarted the search only on the morning after it stopped.

The writer of this diary was never found, and he is still missing as of today.

  3. This is a sad yet kind of wholesome story, the fact that the writer was relieved that everything was finally over and how he wanted to leave the diary just to encourage someone else that could end on the same situation, I hope he ended in good hands though and that the "rescuers" had good intentions πŸ˜…
As always I enjoyed the post! ♡

I am glad you enjoyed it!πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ„πŸ’žπŸŽ΅✨

I just had this weird thought that he ended up being one of those rescuers and he would be "rescuing" other people like him from now on 😱 LoL ⭐

I enjoyed reading your comment! Thank you πŸ’˜✨

  4. This is sad :( I often heard that people dying from hypothermia can get hallucination, maybe that's what he saw. I'm glad he did not lose hope and courage until the end (of the story we know).

I hate cold and high places so I am glad this would never happen to me🀣✨ I had a bizarre hallucination once when I had a fever too😱⭐

  5. Wait...at the end he is missing, what if the "rescue team" was actually something?? BTW, great story!!

They were actually people from my dominion (aka underworld) who went to rescue the poor men out of sympathy 😱✨ Underworld is full of nice pet like me! LOL ⭐

Thank you ever so much πŸŽ„πŸ’ž✨

  7. I find it really interesting that even if it were hallucinations from hypothermia, he still could know the date (when he died) from that... πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

I am ready to worship tuna too🀣🌈✨

  8. Rescuers were a group of partying yuki-onna, that is why the storm lasted so long. In all seriousness, perhaps the cabin sets on the border of two worlds. He ended up in the one where the snow storm ended early. Very nice story.

He is so lucky because Yuki-onna are usually beautiful 🀣🌈✨

I like that theory because that would mean he is safe in another world!πŸ˜†πŸ’–✨ Thank you for commenting!πŸ‘⭐

  10. Your story reminded me of the Dyatlov Pass incident.. as well as many other probable hallucination or mental breakdown induced disappearances and/or deaths.

it's actually a rather excellent plot twist if say... Turns out the person in the story is actually alive, well and fine while also living lavishly under new identity in a far away nation...

I need to tone down on reading Cold War stories I guess :D

Dyatlov incident is interesting! Although I heard recently that a Russian authority reinvestigated the case made an official announcement that they died while attempting to escape from avalanche.

We welcome a comment from a Cold War expert here πŸ˜†πŸ‘⭐

  11. have you ever heard of "paradoxical undressing"? it's something that can happen in hypothermia cases, where the confusion and disorientation can make the victim feel unusually hot, making them shed their clothes and accelerate the hypothermia. I thought of it because i missed him having "extra" warm clothes and thought he used his own clothes to stop up the drafts from the door.

Hypothermia can be pretty scary, huh? I didn't know this was supposed to be supernatural, since I think hallucinating an early rescue and wandering out into the storm is plenty scary on its own!

Y'know, the diary writer wrote dec 12, but they really had no idea what date it was. The diary could just as easily said the 15th, since it was all part of the hallucination. Scary... ;)

Yes I have heard of that, and I think it happened to the people in the Dyatlov incident too!

I agree it is scary even if he just hallucinated and was responsible for his own demise! 😱⭐

Thank you for all your interesting comments! I am sure other people appreciate your comments tooπŸ‘πŸŒΈ✨

    2. Yeah, I was reminded of that incident too! I'd heard about paradoxical undressing before that, since I've been hiking in the mountains many times before, and my mom is very experienced in the outdoors. It's fun but often I find myself frustrated with people acting stupidly in ghost stories set in the woods or mountains.... lol. Stay on the path! Honestly it's more scary to me when people act sensible but they get haunted or supernaturally turned around anyway. That's something I notice more in Japanese ghost stories, is that there often isn't a "reason" someone gets haunted. Often it's just bad luck or bad timing. In American ghost stories there's usually more of a "logic" to a haunting, like a cause-and-effect, something the protagonist did wrong. I wonder if it's because in america there's more of an emphasize on individualism, with "personal responsibility" being so valued... I could go on forever haha.

Thank you for replying so quickly! I felt nostalgic for this site and was so happy to see new entries! I love your translations a lot.

It's wonderful that you are an experienced hiker! Your mother must be an interesting lady!

It's true what you say about the difference between American and Japanese ghost stories! I prefer those stories that don't have a clear cause-and-effectπŸ˜†✨

Thank you! I really enjoyed reading your comments! πŸ’–✨

I am so happy and honoured that you enjoy my translations. It is not always easy for me because English is only my second language. But I have a passion for ghost stories and I started this blog because I really wanted to share these stories with people outside of Japan. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’—πŸŒˆ✨
