(Translated and Arranged by Saya)

My friend Mori kun *1 didn’t have a girlfriend.
He looked like he was popular with girls, so I had always wondered why.

One day, I had a chance to go for a drink with him.
I asked him then why he wasn't seeing anyone, but it somehow caused him to go quiet.

Oops, it was probably something I shouldn't have asked, I thought, when he said, "do you want to come to my place?"
I was just relieved that he wasn't offended, and I said “sure” straightaway.

I was drunk so I am not sure exactly what time it was when we arrived at his apartment, but it was well past midnight.
Mori kun, after opening the front door, said something strange.

“I will go in first and lock the door, so please use this key to unlock it and come inside.”

I looked at him questioningly and he added, “I just want to check if the lock is working properly.”

I said no problem, and after he locked the door from inside, I entered using the key he gave me.

I should have known what he was trying to do.

I entered his room, fully intending to continue the drinking session with him.
But the sake (alcohol drink *2 )tasted like water in my mouth.
I felt somehow repelled by the whole room.
Uneasiness filled my heart. There was a strange floating sensation in my stomach.

Perhaps sensing my discomfort, he didn’t talk much either.
I was wondering if I could ask him, very casually, about something that had been bothering me since I entered his room.

Being in the room was increasingly getting unbearable, and I had only been in there for half an hour.
It was past midnight so there would be no trains running. But still, I wanted to leave as soon as possible.
I hated being in the room.

I have no memory of the excuses I came up with, because I was too agitated at the time.
I didn’t even think it was weird that he didn’t try to stop me from leaving.
I went home by taxi like I was running away from something.

Now I know that it was that key which started this whole thing.
The reason he gave it to me was to make me open the door with it.
Here is what must be done: enter a room using a key, and be the first one to leave it.

My girlfriend came to my place just the other day.
And she asked me the question that was on my mind the whole time while I was in his room:
“Those high heels at the front door — whose are they?” *3

I must invite a friend over to my place very soon.

Note:
*1 — Mori (森) is a common surname in Japan, and it means “forest” in Japanese. The kanji 森 (Mori) is made up of three 木 (ki) which is a kanji for tree.

Kun (君) is a form of address used mainly for men who are either inferior in position or equal in status to the person addressing them. It can be used for women too, for example when a male superior is addressing their female subordinate at work.

*2 — Sake (酒) is a term known in other parts of the world to denote Japanese rice wine, but in Japan, sake usually means just alcohol drink of any kind.
Japanese rice wine specifically is referred to as Nihon shu (日本酒) meaning Japanese Sake.

*3 — If I may remind you, Japanese people leave their shoes at the front door before entering a house.

What the hell is with that key? Also, perhaps there's an unknown woman or perhaps those pair of heels is worn none other than the one who gave the key.

Either way, it's a trap.

How dare you post a comment before me!?😱

🤣🤣🤣✨

This is just my guess, but what the narrator was made to do was what was required for the ghost who was haunting Mori kun to transfer to him.

Thank you so much for your comment!😆🙏🏻⭐️

The narrator wants to invite a friend over to get rid of the ghost? THAT's friendship for you. 😂😂😂. And that English textbook. I don't know the cifcumstances, but the date looked fun
Saya In Underworld said…
I think that’s what happened!😆

I wish I knew the details of the date! I’m sure it would be worthy of a translation 🤣⭐️

Thank you so much for your comment!✨

That's a quite unorthodox method to get rid of ghost.... hopefully whoever get the ghost next is not a deranged degenerate person or the ghost may never be seen or heard again (I admit, the internet and its very specific rule number 34 has ruined us all). Or maybe they all can play how long can the ghost survive at your place before it begs to be exorcised :)

It’s the first time I have someone worrying about a ghost 🤣⭐️

I too hope she will be in good hands 🤣🤣🤣✨

Thank you so much for your comment!

Sayaaaaa! お疲れ様でした!

Ooooo very interesting way of transferring the haunting but darn Mori-kuuuunnnn! How could you do that to the poster! 🤣

But understandable if you're plagued by this weird ghost with high heels haha

I would use this on those door-to-door salesman "Please come in using this key" ww

ありがとうね! 面白いです! またねーーー!

Hello, Second Sun ちゃん!
お疲れ様です!

You’re so much cleverer than Mori kun ~! He should have done this to a salesman, not a friend ~ 🤣🤣🤣⭐️

楽しんでもらえて、良かった!
またね ー!😊😊😊🩷

It doesn't seem like the high heeled ghost does anything too bad to the dates that she haunts. Maybe eventually she will find that special somebody who likes her back?

Great story!

I hope the ghost will find a special someone! She deserves happiness 😭 lol

Thank you so much for your comment! I’m glad you like the story!😊✨

Sorry about the lateness in reading and replying. It has been busy. As for the story, I would never do this a friend by passing the curse/haunting on to him. I would find some way to break the curse or exorcise the haunting. Nasty but still a nice story.

Where have you been?😭
I’m disappointed in you!

…only joking!🤣

Yes, he is a nasty man!😱
I guess the ghost was his type 😆✨

Thank you so much for your comment!🙏🏻⭐️ I hope you will be less busy this week! Take care ~🌸

Such a mysterious story ☹️☹️ I like stories like these where the entity seems to have almost a full lore and the people featured in the story are almost like just players in a game that has the same conclusion every timmmeeeeeeee.

Some theories I have: the entity or ritual(?) works via a key because it's like a man walking into his ideal life in an apartment where he has a girlfriend waiting at home for him. Mori-kun's popularity with girls is an effect of the being, but because of his arrangement with the being he's also not allowed/able to have a human girlfriend for himself either. Also, it feels like important details that the poster-san had to leave late at night via a taxi, because it's reminsicent of lovers' trysts-situations where you see a good-looking guy leave with a girl in a taxi to his apartment late at night.

My other theory (though its very unlikely) is that the girlfriend poster-san mentioned at the ending IS actually the entity, and part of the magical keys effects is that it fools the holder into thinking they do have a girlfriend and they always have, while the shoes appear to sow trouble between the two and their ~neww ~~ relationship. Ahh, but who knows tho ~~ Poster san sure is a pretty unreliable narrator TT ><

Anyway, thanks again for translating saya-san!! Hope youre having a nice day/night >< >< ><

Sorry for spamming >< but now I'm wondering if the being with the shoes is a spirit of a vengeful scorned girlfriend. After all, aren't changing the locks/finding your key no longer fits the lock a common theme in breakups? An unshakeable curse whose main trait is that the key will always fit in any apartment, and the guy (who turned it) is the one that left first... ToT

Also, arent seeing girl's shoes or heels without an owner or with one foot missing a superstition that means something in asian countries? How interesting ~ !

I like your theory! It’s interesting ~ 😆⭐️

I love reading other people’s theories! Thank you so much and I hope you are having a good night/ day too😊✨

Interesting theory regarding the key!😆✨ I like it!

Not sure if there are any myths about ladies shoes in Japan, I would have to do some research! 😆⭐️ But it would be interesting to find out if there were any stories surrounding them!

Thank you so much for your comment 💖
