Hijiri Shrine where the god of Money is enshrined

There was a man who hardly worked at all and spent his days loafing around doing nothing.

His father, realizing that his own death was near, did not want to simply pass his inheritance on to his son.
He wanted his son to mend his ways and work and live properly.
And so he devised a plan: only if the son truly found himself unable to go on would he be able to receive the money.

After his father’s death, the man inherited a letter and a key.
The letter read: “If no matter how hard you try, you are never rewarded, then open the door with this key.”

No longer supported by his father, the man tried to work earnestly, but his life did not improve.
At last, driven into a corner, he did exactly as the letter instructed and opened the door to the room.

Inside, there was nothing—only a rope hanging from the ceiling, fashioned into a noose.

“So you’re telling me to die?!”
Furious, the man resolved to change his ways and began working even harder.
Even then, his life did not get any better.

Utterly consumed by despair, the man attempted to take his own life using that rope.
But when his weight pulled on it, the ceiling collapsed by design,
and a massive amount of his father’s hidden savings came pouring down on top of him.
