(Translated and Arranged by Saya)

I used to work as a photographer for a certain wildlife magazine.

I would set up a tent on an animal trail at night, and wait for animals to pass through so that I could take photos of them. I would also use a remote camera with an infrared sensor.
Due to the nature of my work, spending time alone in the mountains had never been an issue for me — until that time.

It happened when I climbed up Oku-chichibu Mountains along a stream.
I arrived at the spot where I had planned to camp at around 1 pm.
I pitched a tent for one person on the stream bank and got ready to take a nap like usual.
It felt much safer being deep in the mountains, where I knew for sure no other person would come, than being in the middle of a bustling city — or so I thought.
After having hanged a radio on a branch of a tree to keep bears away, I went to sleep.

When I woke up, it was already quite dark outside.
I hang a lantern inside the tent, got my devices ready and placed a headlamp on my forehead. Now I was ready to go out into the night and take some photos. My heart was filled with excitement and expectation.

As soon as I stepped out of my tent though, I noticed something strange.
About 10 metres away from where I was, up the steam, I saw another tent. Its colour appeared to be blue.
The place wasn’t a fishing spot, and it was highly remote and secluded.
I had never expected to find anyone other than myself in there.

The tent was dark and I couldn’t see through inside.

Was someone sleeping in there?
Anyway, I knew it wasn’t there at the time  when I set up my own tent. Did they come while I was asleep, without even having made one single sound…?

But for now, I needed to focus on my work.
I put the speculations aside, and tried to prepare for photoshoots.

It was right then that a light came on inside the blue tent.
And all of a sudden, the tent became mottled with spots. Their dark hue was seeping through the tent from inside, making irregular patterns on all over the tent.
Because of the blue colour of the fabric, it was unclear what colour the spots really were, but they reminded me of dried blood.

Should I say hello to them just to be polite …but that doesn’t seem necessary because I was here first and they haven’t come down to say hello to me, I thought.
But this thought only appeared in my mind to hide from myself the fear I felt from seeing the creepy tent.
I decided to relocate my tent to somewhere else, although it would require quite a bit of work.

So I took down my tent and climbed for about 1 km further up the stream, all the while trying to avoid looking in the direction of the blue tent.
That ruined my chance of getting any photoshoots done that night.

It was nearly 9pm by the time I finished pitching camp again on the upstream bank.
I had a quick meal and went to sleep.
It was still May and the air was cool, but I woke up unexpectedly in the middle of night, drenched with sweat in my sleeping bag. It was around 2 am.

As the air inside the tent felt stuffy, I opened the zip to let some fresh air in — and my heart stopped.

That blue tent from earlier stood right in front of me.

“What the…..?”
The light came on inside the tent, and it became mottled with spots. I saw the shadow of two hands spreading fingers and reaching out.
Someone inside the tent is pushing their hands hard against the wall of the tent.

I nearly passed out then and there, but quickly got out from the other end of the tent and went around to the side, and pointed the light from my flashlight at the blue tent.
The person inside it was fumbling around for a while, but after finally having found the zip, they were trying to get out.

I ran into the stream without looking back, not caring that my clothes got wet.
I ran and ran, down the slope of the mountain, stumbling and falling many times through the complete darkness. I even threw away the flashlight as I ran.
I stopped running only when I ran out of my breath and couldn’t move anymore. I crouched down on the spot and waited, trembling, until the dawn came.

The next day, I went back to where my tent was with some local people from the foot of the mountain.
As I had seen on the previous night, there were my tent and that blue tent standing side by side, but the blue tent now looked so much older than it did before, to the point that it was actually in the process of decaying.
Inside the tent, we found some remains of a man who was later found to have been dead for over ten years.

Since then, I stopped taking photos of wild animals, and I had never been anywhere near any mountains.
This is the end of my story and everything I told you is true.

This story is somehow scary and amusing at the same time. I couldn't help thinking: Just when he thought he got away from the human society... ^^~
Thank you Saya, I hope you enjoy your weekend ^^

That’s true! It seems amusing if you look at it that way πŸ˜†⭐️

I suppose whoever owned the blue tent wanted to be discovered as soon as possible, and was overjoyed to see a living human being who might have been able to help him!πŸ˜†✨

You’re welcome! Thank you so much and enjoy your weekend too ~ ✨✨⭐️

Blue Tent , person inside is fumbling around, 2 hands spreading fingers....
If your site were not known for horror stories I would have think of other adult things.... well i did XD

Jokes aside, stories about dead person found inside tents are very popular everywhere it seems.
and I can tell why.... there are many cases of campers got killed by falling trees / tree branches, landslides, falling rocks/cliffs, flash flood, wild animals - think of venomous animals that can somehow get inside without breaking the tent - not bears and the like, died because of hypothermia or their own disease or poor preparation and equipment / lack of experience / without any supervision from appropriately experienced person, and there are unusual case of campers died because they got ran over by vehicle as they unknowingly set up their tent on or near vehicle track.

People may set their tent at remote or unknown location, or just right outside the well known camping or foot path area, and then died, leaving their remains to not be found for very long time, that is also if any wild animals don't get to their remains earlier.

There was this case of a woman in US who died while camping and was only found years later, the irony was she was less than 50 meters to camp ground and foot path. No one had thought of searching her there because it was so close.

Sorry if I scare you and others from trying to camp in the wild. Just make sure to have good preparations and please don't do stupid things :D - not everyone can be dead and still have the ability to ask for help like the ghost in the story

Maybe the reason why that tent followed the author is because it wanted to be found and be laid to rest. That's the only explanation I can think of.
That photograph almost gave me a heart attack! HAHA I wasn't expecting it to be in your face much. 🀣
Thank you so much for the scary story Saya-san! Have a wonderful day. πŸ’•πŸ’•

Thanks Saya. Now when I go out hiking for pictures, I will have to be on the look out for a blue tent lol. Love the story and thank you as always.

I don't know what's creepier, the story or the last picture. Also, no unrelated creepy picture before the story? You are losing your touch, aren't you, Saya? Just kidding LOL. Keep the good work.

That’s scary!😱⭐️
I suppose it’s a good thing if this post, together with your comment, can raise awareness about how dangerous camping can be!

I think your comment may have put people off going camping for good…

Just kidding 🀣⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much for the warning you provided in your comment ~ 🩡

I think that was what the ghost was trying to accomplish too, in retrospect πŸ˜†⭐️

Sorry for that photograph at the end! I’ll try to be more subtle the next time 🀣✨

I hope that man was given a proper cremation/ funeral. Maybe he was trying to tell the narrator that he wanted his remains to be found and his soul to depart this world properly. Good job as usual Saya!
Saya In Underworld said…
I think that was what he was trying to do too! Sad, isn’t it 😭

Thank you so much for being so nice! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Even though I am so terribly late, I feel I must make this comment.
Saya, my heart has not pounded this hard for a long time reading stories.
This story really spooked me out. I think if I'm the narrator I would just pass out.
And I agree with the others that the blue tent was trying to be found.
Poor guy. After 10 years he can now rest in peace.
Great story. Thank you Saya :)

I found the story quite creepy too when I first read it!πŸ˜†✨
I’m so glad it gave you the spooks⭐️

If the ghost wanted be found, he could have done that in a nicer way, I think 🀣🌸

Thank you so much for your comment! Don’t worry about being late! I appreciate it!πŸ’–

Sayaaa! 1 week late but just had to comment 🀣

Blue tents always gives me a different feeling as that's the colour of the tent I used while I was in the police force (Singapore) to cover up the deceased at a crime scene.

So this would REALLY freak me out 🀣

I would have just passed out if I was the author LOL

That sounds so cool!⭐️

But were you ok seeing dead bodies?😱
I would freak out and pass out if I saw one especially at crime scenes😱✨

Yes I was! 8 years total haha

Oh I got used to it really quickly.. saw my first when I was just 1 week in LOL
Seeing them when on duty helps to not focus on the freaky aspect so much

But since I'm no longer in the force, I would pass out like you 🀣🀣

Wow! So interesting!
I would love to hear more stories about your life as a police officer one day ~ ✨

I can’t imagine getting used to dead bodies🀣⭐️

as an experienced and avid camper, i enjoyed this story! having the blue tent appear suddenly right next to his... wonderfully creepy!

unfortunately little details got stuck in my brain, distracting me... i dont know about radios dissuading bears, but what you want to actually do is store all your food away from your tent, hanging in the air, like from a tree. because what really attracts bears is food, and if they find any they will come back. thats the cause of most bear attacks, i believe. at least it is with grizzlys and black bears on the west coast; maybe japanese bears are different..?
