Stuffed Peppers (Japanese style)

Something bizarre happened yesterday.

It was Sunday and raining, so I was just chilling at home all day.

When I finally saw the clock it was past 17:00, and I was thinking what I should have for dinner.

Then I heard my older brother, whom I was sharing the flat with, come through the front door, saying “Tadaima ~ (I’m home).”
He was with his girlfriend and I also heard her say, “Ojama-shimasu ~ (sorry to disturb you).”

My brother and his girlfriend told me that they were planning to make some stuffed peppers together that night for the first time, and that they knew I would love them too.

About an hour later, two large mountains of stuffed peppers, piled high on plates, were placed on the table, and the three of us ate them together.
They tasted incredibly good.

I had thought we wouldn’t be able to finish them all but we did.

After we had finished eating, I went to the bathroom, but when I came back, my brother and his girlfriend were gone.
The plates and cutlery were in the sink, and the shoes weren’t at the front door (note: Japanese people leave their shoes at the front door before entering a house) so I figured that they had gone out again.

The next morning, my brother came back.
His girlfriend was with him too, so I thanked her for the stuffed peppers last night.
But my brother and his girlfriend were both like, “what?” and looked at me blankly.
I told them again that I was grateful for the delicious stuffed peppers they made for me yesterday.

And then my brother said , “yesterday? Yesterday we were at the wedding of a senpai (note: a senior student) from the university, from noon until midnight, so we don’t know anything about stuffed peppers.”
His girlfriend joined him by saying, “I don’t think I have ever made any stuffed peppers.”

But that doesn’t make sense at all.

Today, I didn’t go to school because my stomach hurts.
What on earth were those stuffed peppers last night?
Who were the brother and the girl I saw yesterday?

What did I eat?
Who were those people I was with?
Please someone help me stop this diarrhea.

Hello, Saya! How are you? :)

I already had a bad feeling when I was reading the part where they're eating everything because they were so good. Hehe.
The peppers were good, so I'm guessing the meat was fresh, just.. not the usual or maybe forbidden kind. Don't they say human meat is the most delicious? I'm guessing this is it.
However, the spirits may play cruel tricks on the narrator based on her dietary restriction or religion. So the meat can be pork if the narrator is jewish or muslim, or beef if he's a hindu.
I think human meat is most likely, though.

Great story, and nice to read your stories again, Saya. Thank you :)
I'm gonna find time to binge read all your stories that I missed.

Or they were yokai! 🀣✨

But how tasty those things could have been for him to have eaten so many of them in one sitting!πŸ˜†
I could probably eat three of them maximum!

Thank you so much for your comment ~⭐️🌸

That last line killed me XD
And what makes it even funnier is that I'm doing number two right now, because of a terrible stomachache. Talk about coincidence.

Perhaps a mischievous Tanuki or any yokai with an ability to shapeshift.

Hello, nunu! I’m great, thank you! I hope you are doing well too✨✨⭐️

It’s lovely to hear from you again! We have missed you here!

It would be so dreadful if it were made of human meat 😱😱😱⭐️
That reminds me! I need to publish a post related to that topic soon🀣✨

Thank you so much for your interesting theory! πŸ’–

Sorry that was me aboveπŸ˜†✨

Why is it that some people take their phones to the bathroom 😱😱😱⭐️ That’s unforgivable and you are banned from my blog!

Only joking 🀣✨

I hope it wasn’t because of having some weird stuffed peppers that you were suffering from a stomachache! πŸ˜†πŸ€

That’s what I had in my mind too ~ 🀣✨

I find many yokai do this kind of pranks for no reason lol

Thank you so much for your comment!

In my country, these kind of food would always turn into nails, worms or hair when you vomit it. How can they be delicious in the first place is still a mystery.
Saya In Underworld said…
Nails and worms? Are those metaphors or do you live in a country in which people actively practice witchcraft ?🀣⭐️

You can try the Japanese recipe and see if you like it 🀣✨

Thank you so much for your comment!

This is why it is important to know what your housemates are up to. That way, you are better equipped to handle creatures pretending to be your housemates. Nice story.

Hi Saya, long time reader, but I only commented once or twice. I really had to laugh that you posted a recipe video about stuffed peppers right after a story where they gave the narrator diarrhea! You really hit my sense of humor there!
And as always: Thank you so much for these awesome stories and for your work!

All the best and greetings from Germany!

Not gonna lie, even if I knew the food was made by a demon or ghost, if it looked tasty enough I would eat it. I wonder what kind of forbidden meat was in those peppers, lol. I hope your summer is going well, Saya!

Exactly 🀣✨
That’s the lesson we learned from this story!

Thank you so much for your comment πŸ™πŸ»⭐️

I’m so glad you are still here enjoying these posts with usπŸ˜†πŸŒΈ

Germany is a great country and a home to many amazing musicians!
I worship Bach, and one of my favourite pianists is Wilhelm Kempff . He is a god😭
You’re blessed to be living in such a culturally rich place!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment πŸ€✨✨⭐️Take care and come again ~ πŸ’•

You’re such a brave man, not being afraid of getting diarrhoea 😱⭐️⭐️⭐️LOL

According to one of the readers who commented above, it could be human meat ~ 🀣✨
But it would be nice if it were some kind of special exotic meat! LOL

Oh thank you kindly!πŸ’• I hope you are enjoying your summer too! It’s getting pretty hot here in Japan!😱
But ice creams taste better in such a hot weather 🀣🌸

Take care and don’t just eat anything you’re given!🀣✨

LOL this is a funny story. Poor guy! But well at least the peppers tasted good! Mystery meat yummy ~

"Please someone help me stop this diarrhea." And you putting the recipe at the end got me good. Great work 🀣🀣🀣

I think they really live in country where witchcraft practice is still common, because I won't find the story strange either if I hear it in my place. Some eateries actually use help of such power to boost patronage.

As some of my family including me are religious, we usually pray before eat anything. Legit from time to time we would find the food to be inedible as it'll suddenly goes stale or has something "extra" wriggling in the food. I had found maggots inside "freshly made" food lol.

That sounds so intriguing! Thank you so much for your information 😊✨

if the brother and the girlfriend were demons, maybe the meat used for the stuffed bell pepers were.... human meat?! 😱
Saya In Underworld said…
That’s possible 🀣⭐️
Make sure you use normal animal meat for the recipe above if you intend to try it🀣✨

Thank you so much for your comment 🌸
if that was me, I'd say something stupid to my brother and his girlfriend; "wait.. if that wasn't you guys... then, who was here yesterday?" πŸ˜‚ I'd be both confused, in pain due to the diarrhea and frightened all at onceπŸ˜‚
Saya In Underworld said…
That sounds like a normal reaction to me🀣⭐️

Thank you so much for your comment!

huh, didnt know there were japanese stuffed peppers! now i know.

other people are speculating about human meat but my first thought was how there were two huge mountains of peppers yet three people managed to eat them all... so i figured he just had indigestion from over-eating rich food all at once. even when eating youkai/ghost food, dont make yourself sick!

my brother took me to a brazilian steakhouse for lunch once and i ate so much meat i was groaning the rest of the day... but my god it was worth it. if i hadn't balanced it with carbs and some veggies id probably be like the narrator there, instead of merely nauseous.
SAYA said…
What a funny anecdote!🀣✨
I have never eaten so much meat that it made me sick like that!
I guess I should avoid going to a Brazilian steakhouse!🀣⭐️

And yes, true, yokai or no, if you ate so much meat, you would be sick anyway!🀣✨

Thank you so much for your fun comment!

Might be a tanuki prank. Tanukis are known to turn a pile of leaves into food for the victim who is unaware of them and I imagine since leaves are pack full of fiber, they are able to induce diarrhea. Also it was odd when the person could finish a whole pile of stuffed peppers even though there’s so much food. Leaves are also low in calories
SAYA said…
That would explain a lot of things in the storyπŸ˜†

Thank you so much for sharing your theory❤️
