There once was a haunted tunnel where it was said that a ghost would invariably appear to anyone who walked through it.
Three girls, all students at a junior high school near the tunnel, made a plan to do kimodameshi (a test of courage) in there.
Too scared to go there at night, they met up during the day, but the tunnel still looked dark and creepy.
Since none of them dared to enter it alone, they decided to run through the tunnel together, with their hands joined.
After they had run through the tunnel and come out breathless on the other side, each of them said to the others:
“I’m so glad I was between you two!”

As for Japanese, I am still working on it. I meet once a week with a native speaker. Wish I had more time to dedicate to learning it. I did use a little while I was in Japan. Two instances stand out. One was asking direction for a hotel, and the second was picking out a magatama charm, where knowing that η΄«θ² meant the purple one and γγ meant this one in particular.
That's so kind of the ghosts, I think?
Whether the intention was to scare the girls or gave them courage, the ghosts really helped the girls with their test.
The girls get to bravely completed their challenge and at the same time confirmed that the tunnel was haunted.
This story reminds me of 2 other stories that I read here before.
One of it was about a ghost participating in a game of tag in a house. The narrator and his friends were playing tag all night to keep warm.
And the other story was one of my all time favourite. The narrator and his friends were driving in a dark tunnel when suddenly it "rained". And when they exited the tunnel, they saw bloodied handprints all over the car.

Asking for directions in Japanese is impressive, and η΄«θ² is a difficult word (even Japanese children learn it at a later stage in their development π)
Take your time learning it! It’s fine as long as you are learning consistently and you don’t give up!
Enjoy the process! I think you should be proud of yourself for just trying to learn a new language! And you can even communicate in it!

you'd think they'd notice there were extra hands before going into the tunnel... since id link hands first. i guess inside they got scared? either way, short and sweet!
im reminded of a ghost book... "The Enchanted World: Ghosts", that i loved as a kid bc of the great creepy stories and wonderfuly illustrations. there was a column that described the worlds shortest ghost story: "A man stood alone in a dark church and wished aloud that he had a light. A match was put into his hand"
