I only had one friend at the university, and one time I went to stay overnight at her house. 

As we chatted about the area around the university over the dinner, my friend’s mother said: 

“Do you know Dai-ichi Department Store? Before I got married, I used to work there. When you have free time, please go to the women’s restroom on the fourth floor. You will know the reason why once you get there, so I’ll keep it a secret.”

I wondered why she had to tell that to me, and in such a roundabout way too, but I didn’t have any plan to go to Dai-ichi Department Store any time soon, so I just ignored it. 

A few years later, Dai-inch Department Store decide to close for good, and I remembered what my friend’s mother had said.

When I went to the woman’s restroom on the fourth floor, the door of one occupied cubicle opened, and my friend’s mother came out. 

She was wearing the same clothes as she was when I stayed over at her house. 

As I stood there, stunned, she only said “you see?” and left. 

I had lost contact with my friend since we graduated from the university, so the mystery of it remains unsolved.
