❤️Updating Every Saturday Evening (Japan Time)

(Translated and Arranged by Saya)

This is something that happened to me a long time ago, when my then girlfriend, whom I was together with for a few years, passed away.

I was able to keep a few of her belongings as keepsakes, and among them, there was one of the matching pair of stone omamori (Note:an amulet) which we bought together.

I was sad and depressed, and it took me a long time to recover from the shock of losing her.

But about a year after her death, something happened that helped me to finally to let go of the grief and move on.

One night, I went to sleep but woke up again a little while later.
I opened my eyes and looked around, but all the things in my room were arranged as they used to be two years ago.

My mind was still foggy from sleep, and I was staring confusedly at my room, when my girlfriend walked in through the door.

She took out one of our omamori from a drawer, and then smiled at me.
“You’re ok now, so you don’t need this anymore. Good luck! I’ll be cheering for you.”
She said, and walked out of the room.

I don’t remember exactly what happened right after this, but when I came to, I was back in my usual room.
Everything in my room was arranged the same way as it was yesterday.
All was back to normal.

I quickly opened the drawer, and found there was only one omamori left in there.

I still keep the omamori with me and I will treasure it forever.

It has already been seven years since this happened.

If it were that easy. Ah, to endure 'til sweet death.

Aww. This is something magical to experience. I want to cry now. I just lost my dog earlier this week, and I'm just devastated. He's been with us for 13 years, and he's our everything in our family. Thank you for this story, Saya!

@Saya_In_Underworld Thank you. I really want warmer weather and spring, but I am taking pictures of what I can. Now October/November, if things go as planned, I will return to Japan.

This story means so much to me...I lost my husband, my soulmate, when he passed unexpectedly in his sleep last June. Last Wednesday was a rough day for me, as you can imagine. This gave me some comfort and healing tears. Thank you. (The feeling of comfort and closure brings to mind Banana's story about the bridge, have you read it? It's the second story in her book Kitchen.)

I do have a suggestion for your translation. (I was an English teacher and freelance translator in Taiwan for many years, so please forgive me!) Calling her "ex-girlfriend" implies that they had broken up before she passed away. I suggest you either use "late girlfriend" ("late" refers to someone that has passed on--such as "late husband", "our late President", etc), or just use "girlfriend" (meaning that was her status when she died).

Don't feel bad, you are a superb translator (much better than I am!)! I so look forward to your stories every week!
@George V
That’s nice! You are visiting many places I have never been to before. I look forward to seeing more lovely pictures from you!
@Mamacat83

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I’m glad this story has provided you with some comfort!

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I do understand those differences.
I usually have to translate these stories on a time crunch, so I have very little time to proofread 😅

The narrator was talking about her in part tense, and my immediate reaction at the time was to translate it as ex gf.
I’m correcting the sentence nevertheless. I appreciate it!😊

On that day, I watched When Harry Met Sally, a timeless romantic comedy.
I love Wong Kar Wai's works, so I also watched Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love. The former is whimsical but the latter is a sad romance story but it's so beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing 😊
I think I have heard of all those titles, but never watched any of them! lol
I’m afraid if watching anything sad though 😭
I always opt for funny and silly things!
Despite the popular belief 😆 I don’t watch any horror movies either!

Thank you again ~ 🩷
